Castello di Spessa, with its unmistakable silhouette stands on top of a small hill, in the heart of the Collio in Capriva del Friuli. The manor of medieval origin, today the fulcrum of an elegant Golf Wine Resort & SPA, is surrounded by an 18-hole golf course intertwining with the vineyards.

The Castello di Spessa winery produces fine DOC Collio and DOC Friuli Isonzo wines, aged in the cellar and in the military bunker under the Castle. Tasting the estate’s wines with a guided tour of the cellar is available on request, while a selection of gastronomic delicacies can be enjoyed in the elegant gourmet restaurant “La Tavernetta al Castello” at the foot of the manor.

The old stables, now host the Vinum SPA: 2,000 square metres of wellness with sauna, jacuzzi, massages, beauty treatments and much more. The heart of the SPA is wine therapy, with the use of grapes and wines from the estate.

Like all ancient manors, Castello di Spessa in Capriva del Friuli exerts a subtle charm even on the most distracted visitor. And it is not only for the refined elegance of the buildings and for the beauty of the centuries-old park, but also for its millennial history, full of events and characters.

Curiosity

In 1772, Casanova came to Trieste where he met the owner of Castello di Spessa, the then Count Luigi Torriani, who, in 1773, took him to the estate. The illustrious Venetian dedicates several pages of his famous memories History of my life to his stay in Spessa. Among other things, he says that the count’s heritage consisted entirely of his large vineyards that stretched around the castle, and which provided “an excellent wine”.
