Two the locations were chosen in Fvg. The Castle of Gorizia, in its debut film, where instruments of torture and blood-stained clothes are the focal point of an execution. Throughout its history, the castle underwent several changes and was used for different functions, from administrative centre to barracks, to prison. Bombed during the First World War it was rebuilt in the 1930s. The other location is the Castello di Villalta (Udine), chosen for some outdoor duel scenes. This is the most important medieval castle of Friuli dating back to 1158, repeatedly besieged, destroyed and rebuilt between 1200 and 1400.
