FORMER RUDA POWDER MILL

Set for no fewer than two film productions – Netflix’s “Rapiniamo il Duce” and the second season of the RAI drama “Volevo fare la rockstar” – this facility is an extraordinary example of industrial archaeology. Built in 1865 on the remains of an old mill, the starch mill inaugurated the industrial chemical cycle of starch extraction, first from wheat and then also from rice. The idea originated with Luigi Chiozza, a chemist who realized that it was possible to combine agricultural and industrial activities into a single business line. Although the owners changed over time, the working method remained unchanged for more than a century, until the plant closed in 1986. Today it is owned by the Municipality of Ruda and houses numerous machines from the late 19th century, which are of extraordinary importance from an industrial point of view.
