SET DISCOVER XR, an app to explore film locations in Friuli Venezia Giulia

On September 27, 2023, the Casa del Cinema Association of Trieste announced the launch of SET DISCOVER XR, an application available for Android and iPhone, designed to discover the sets and locations of films and series shot in the evocative territory of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Presented at Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi 3, this app offers an engaging experience, allowing users to explore the region through cinema. The guided itineraries offered enable visits to both famous and lesser-known locations, enriched by trivia and anecdotes directly from the film sets.

SET DISCOVER XR, in addition to offering guided thematic routes, enhances the experience of the “Esterno/Giorno” cinematic walks by providing content in bilingual Italian/English and without calendar limits, ensuring an always accessible experience for visitors.

“Creating a tool like SET DISCOVER XR was a challenge that took time, but in the end, I believe we managed to strike a balance that respects cinematic content while showcasing the territory” said Cristina Sain, project manager.

Currently, two itineraries are available at the app’s launch: the first, curated by journalist Elisa Grando, is dedicated to the RAI television series “La porta rossa,” while the second, devised by film critic Gianluca Guerra, narrates stories of spies and secret agents in the Trieste of the Allied Military Government.

SET DISCOVER XR positions itself as a tool that employs digital storytelling, engaging narratives, georeferenced information, in-depth content, soundscapes, and augmented and virtual reality, engaging a broad spectrum of tourists, including digital enthusiasts, individuals with disabilities or special needs, and the local community.

The app is available for free download on iOS and Android devices at the Set Discover XR address and will be regularly updated with new thematic routes spanning the entire Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

This innovative initiative was developed by the Casa del Cinema Association of Trieste in collaboration with IKON Digital Farm of Ronchi dei Legionari, with the support of the Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Comune di Trieste, and in collaboration with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission.
