Death in Venice

Gustav von Aschenbach, a fifty-year-old musician, arrives from Munich to Venice Lido for a holiday. There he meets the young Tadzio, a teenager with beautiful features, a beauty which he is strongly attracted by. To suppress his feelings and the disappointing hospitality of Venice, he goes back to Munich, but a mistake in sending his luggage obliges him to return to Venice, where he meets Tadzio again.
Impressed by the versatility of the area, Luchino Visconti, filmed some scenes in Trieste, transforming Trieste Campo Marzio railway station into Venice station. Decommissioned in 1960, Campo Marzio railway station is now home to a museum dedicated to the history of the railways of Friuli Venezia Giulia and kept open just thanks to the volunteers of the Trieste Railwayworkers’s Social Club. During the year, some historical train runs are organised by the Ferstoria Club.
