The series begins with the disappearance of 16-year-old Laura Mancini. The investigation is led by the deputy boss Andrea Baldini together with his colleagues Dino and Luisa Ferrari. The story takes place in the fictional town of Castel Marciano, which actually corresponds to the Duino, Sistiana and Muggia landscapes in the province of Trieste. A basic set for the TV series is the old Castle of Duino, also known for the legend of the White Lady. Duino Castle was inhabited for some time by a knight and his loving wife: one evening the knight lured her onto a narrow rock under the walls of the Castle and threw her into the sea because there were rumours that she had betrayed him. The unfortunate lady turned her gaze to the sky and was transformed into a large white stone, which is still visible today at the foot of the Castle. Ever since then, the White Lady has broken away from the rock at around midnight each night and walked through the rooms and corridors of Duino Castle.
