Elena Biasini is killed in her tailoring shop. The murder seems inexplicable at first, but Montalbano will be able to combine the various elements of the woman’s life until he discovers the truth behind her death. The episode takes place in the fictional town of Bellosguardo: in fact, the scenes were filmed in two villages in Friuli Venezia Giulia, namely Cividale and Venzone. The second is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy: it is the last example of a fortified village from the 14th century in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Cividale is a town on the Natisone River that is important from a historical and artistic point of view. As for its inhabitants, it is said that “they know more than the devil” … the explanation is given by the legend of the Devil’s Bridge. The citizens of Cividale wanted to build a bridge and decided to call the devil. The latter accepted, but in return demanded the soul of the first resident to cross it. The congregation accepted the terms and the devil built the structure in one night. The next morning, the devil tried to collect the reward but was deceived by the astute people who had a dog (or a cat, according to another version of the legend) cross the bridge. The devil tried to destroy the structure, but a cross made him flee.
